kenfig pool

walk around kenfig pool early very spring like morning, highlights were marsh tit,cettis warbler, gadwall, goldeneye,buzzard,


Just to add to Paul's report 6 buzzard 1 hawk sp on summit spooking 2 golden plover, birds in full song were greenfinch, song thrush, mistle thrush, great tit, coal tit, magpie and pigeon carrying nesting material.

highlights of the birds seen around kenfig pool and back to orion, bittern seen from south pool hide, kenfig saltmarsh little egret, water rail, teal wigeon, gadwall, little grebe and canada geese, kenfig rivermouth 1 red throated diver , great crested grebe, greater black backed, common, lesser black backed, herring and black headed gulls, sanderling and oystercatcher, and a goshawk and buzzard flew over the orion factory

                                     This Tortrix moth - Acleris ferrugana/ notana was caught
                                     on the wing today.


                                     Got a call from Craig about a Tawny owl flying into
                                     a tunnel away from pursuing Magpies. The bird was
                                     very tame and had a leather jess around it's feet.

A cold and dull day up around cwmdu this morning produced very little bird life, the highlight being a male goshawk chasing a pigeon across the lower slopes of mynydd bach, 1 kestrel (fem), 6 crossbill, 2 jay, 1 redwing, 10 blackbirds, 8 blue tit, 3 great tit, 3 raven (2 displaying to each other) , 2 mistle thrush.

mynydd margam and neath estuary



a woodcock seen at maesteg golf course and a few parties of crossbills and siskins seen around the forest area this a.m. later a walk along the neath estuary and the saltmarsh, 9 dunlin, 1 grey plover, 3 little egrets, sparrowhawk, buzzard, kestrel, and a red kite feeding near the edge of the estuary under the old britton ferry bridge
