cwmdu maesteg

1 adult female ring ouzel at the ruin above the scramble track at cwmdu, alun hughes was about and said there was a male there also but i could not locate it, the female bird was spending a lot of time on the ground feeding rather than using the hawthorn berries available

At least 3 ring ouzels still present 17.00hrs, 50+ fieldfare and 20+ redwing in the scrub with more ring ouzels not sure if they were the same birds as first seen though, also a male merlin flew up from fields behind the school and flew over the brow out of sight towards the summit of mynydd bach

                                         Ring ouzel, two males and a first winter female present.
                                         Also a few Fieldfare (above) and 400 Wood pigeon over.
                                         Wood pigeon numbers will reach their thousands
                                         over the next week or so as they move west.

Kenfig pool

Very poor on the migrant birds a couple of chiffchaff(3), long tailed tits a couple of goldcrest and water rail calling, Best bird of the morning was a female merlin that flew in from the beach direction and across the road towards the farm fields.

                                 Common darter
                               A Whinchat and 2 Ring ouzel were the pick of the migrants.
                               Migrant moths were a Rush veneer and several Silver Y.

Ring ouzel's at cwrt y mwnws farm and comma butterfly at dunraven



Mynydd bach, Maesteg.

                                  Two of the six Ring ouzel found by Badger this afternoon.
                                  Hopefully he has better photos.....

                                           Amongst the flyovers of Swallows, Skylarks, Siskins,
                                           Redpolls and Meadow pipits were a Brambling, a Merlin
                                           and a cracking Sabine's gull in juv plumage flew very low
                                           over us at Cwm mawr, a tick for Badger (in the nicest sense).
                                           Also the resident Peregrine and Choughs were seen.
