A view of the salt marsh
Birds seen along the route were;
2 sandmartin, 1 wheatear, 5 cetti's, 3 chiffchaff, 5 snipe, 1 kestrel, 4 stonechat, skylark, meadow pipit, long tailed tit, 1 kingfisher, 1 raven, canada geese, teal, mallard, coot, 1 water rail, 1 redshank, little grebe, 1 little egret, 3 heron, 2 cormorant.

Pwll yr lwrch

Bitterly cold easterly winds blowing along the mountain today but braved the conditions and got rewarded with;
1 wheatear below little quarry on left side of mountain, 1 red kite, 1 redwing, 1 raven, 1 pair of stonechat, 5 greenfinch and 3 goldfinch at cwmdu and 1 jack snipe in same spot by no9 winder

Around the valley this morning

A loop around the valley this morning llangynwdd, shwt & mynydd ty talwyn



3 Pairs of lapwing back at usual breeding field 
Lots of Raptors about today including 1 male goshawk, 1 sparrowhawk 7 buzzard, 1 carrying nesting material, 3 red kite, 1 merlin. 3 fieldfare but no redwing.

Kenfig pool and Parc slip.

                                 Displaying Great crested grebes, also a Black necked
                                 grebe still present.
                                 5 Lapwing were in a horse paddock near Parc Slip
                                   Blue tit, Parc slip.

A walk up the lower slopes to the no9 winder and across the lower slopes to cwmdu
1 Jack snipe my first for the year, flew up from little stream that runs along the front of the winder, frightened the life out of me, my dog had already walked straight passed it before it flew up from under me and then flew about 50 yds into the stream that runs below the track that leads up from the road. Also 2 heron's flew over from nanty heading towards cwmdu, 1 yellowhammer, 1 stonechat, 2 reed bunting, 6 mistle thrush singing, 3 buzzard, 2 green woodpecker, 1 great spotted woodpecker, and 1 lesser spotted woodpecker calling from trees beside Bryn Rhug farm, 2 redwing and a flock of noisy siskin behind the council yard in cemetery.

a first for me

in all the years of birding a first sighting today of a pair of buzzard locking tallons and spiralling to the ground letting go of each other a few feet from the ground, also a few other raptors about and a golden plover calling on ffoel trawsnant

                                   dived down to the river and came up with a Brown rat.

Mynydd bach west.

                                  Saxifrage species growing on graves in cemetery
                                 Song thrush anvil. The birds use favoured stones, known
                                 as Anvils, for cracking snails open.
                                Eristalis Tenax. The sun brought out a few of these today.
                                Lesser Redpoll, this flock contained 18 birds. Also a pair
                                of Common snipe seen and a Small tortoiseshell butterfly.
