My garden today

My garden hoverfly list has had another 3 added today making my list total of 25 with species below

Syrphus species with hair on eyes (torvus)

Female Syrphus species with all yellow hind femur (ribesii)

Dasysyrphus albostriatus long black stigma on wing narrows it down to a dasysyrphus species and the 2 pale stripes on the thorax makes this unmistakable

Also in the garden was this Paykullia maculata a fly that preys on woodlice which is always welcome

Conops strigatus wiedemann

Whilst out looking for hoverflies this afternoon i came across this Conops strigatus wiedemann, it's a very scarce species of fly from the genus conops a first record for glamorgan i believe
