Maesteg cemetery area

A walk around the cemetery area starting with the pond at Maesteg comprehensive school. Here i came across the first Anasimyia contracta for the valley recording scheme but caution must be taken as this could also be the rarer Anasimyia transfuga but need a photo from directly above to be 100%.

Also at the pond was a Black horned cleg haemotopota crassicornis

Llangynwyd sewage works

New species of hoverfly for the valley, i've been searching the marshy habitat near the sewage works for Chalcosyrphus nemorum all spring in the hope of coming across one, but today i not only found one but 3, one was on buttercup next to the road the other two on vegetation near the Marsh marigold in the woods a new species for me personally so very happy also the first of the Platycheirus rosarum and granditarsus that has been recorded on the UK HOVERFLIES face book page this year
